Laguna Phuket, the premier destination resort spanning 1,000 acres of parkland and beachfront on Phuket’s west coast, is helping to bring world-class art and culture back to Thailand, following the arrival of Siam Sinfonietta, the acclaimed youth orchestra, for a Sandbox stay featuring exclusive performances.

Having collected their “2021 Spirit of Cinema Award” at the Oldenburg International Film Festival in Germany, Siam Sinfonietta returned to Thailand last month via the Phuket Sandbox. Choosing to stay at Angsana Laguna Phuket, the orchestra’s founder and composer, Khun Somtow Sucharitkul, partnered with Laguna Phuket to perform a series of events on the island.

The Thailand premiere of the award-winning movie “The Maestro” was screened at the Lagoon Deck, Banyan Tree Phuket

The action started with the Thailand premiere of their award-winning movie “The Maestro: A Symphony of Terror” on 25 September. The exclusive movie screening took place at the Lagoon Deck, Banyan Tree Phuket, where the alfresco meeting space was transformed into a movie theatre for the evening.

Keen to connect with the local community, the orchestra joined the Laguna Phuket CSR team to visit Cherntalay Shrine, where they learned about the history of the famous Phuket Vegetarian Festival and donated survival packs to local people affected by COVID-19.

To support the growth of talented young Thai musicians, Khun Somtow conducted a Facebook Live session from the Laguna Phuket Wedding Chapel, guiding viewers through a one-hour introduction to the symphony orchestra. Watch the full live recording at https://fb.watch/8qc75_D5sQ/

The musicians continued to bring joy to the Phuket community with their final public performance, “Siam Sinfonietta Live at Central Phuket”, which was held on Sunday 3 October at the central atrium of Central Phuket Floresta. In collaboration with Laguna Phuket, lucky shoppers were able to enjoy the one-hour performance and take advantage of special hotel promotions.

“It has been an incredible two-week visit and we are thankful to Phuket province for their Sandbox program, and to Laguna Phuket for their wonderful hospitality. We are delighted to have made our return to Thailand so productive and rewarding, we hope our music has spread some good feeling to the Phuket community during this challenging time,” said Khun Somtow.
