REPAIR BANGTAO LONG TAIL BOATS

Bangtao Boat Club
•  Many of the damaged boats that were identified belong to members of the Bangtao Long Tail Boat Club. The members of this club are tour boat operators and fishermen, living in Bangtao.
•  Of the 38 long tail boats, 14 were damaged and needed to be rebuilt as quickly as possible, so the club members could go back to work.

Independent Fishermen and Tour Boat Operators
• 23 fishing boats and 11 tour boats, belonging to fishermen outside of the Bangtao Boat Club, also needed to be repaired. Of these, 22 have already been fully restored.
• An additional 19 fishing boats and one tour boat were completely destroyed. 20 new boats were deliverd in late March.

Project Status
•  The Phuket Tsunami Recovery Fund purchased necessary equipment and materials to repair the damaged boats. It also paid for the labour required to repair each boat.
• Laguna Phuket ordered and paid for the new boats that arrived in March.
• Completed

The rebuild/repair work excludes replacing of the boat engines as the government is providing funding for these.
