2008 KTO Junior Challenge Winners Announced

The Laguna Phuket Golf Club was host to the 2008 KTO Junior Challenge on 29-30 May 2008. The event was organized by Kids-Tee-off, Richmond Group Thailand, the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Asian Golf Monthly and the Phuket Gazette.

The international 36-hole junior tournament was open to young golfers aged six to 17 who hold a current recognized handicap card (or certificate of competence for kids aged eight and under). The format of the tournament was Stroke Play, with tee markers adjusted to make the course age and gender appropriate following USGA guidelines.

Apart from playing an award winning 18-hole course at the Laguna Phuket Golf Club, players and their families were also able to enjoy the excellent facilities within Laguna Phuket with special rates for accommodation and discounts on green fee and golf merchandise, as well as on spa treatments at the Banyan Tree Spa.

An awards presentation lunch was held at the Laguna Phuket Golf Club clubhouse on 30 May.The results of the 2008 KTO Junior Challenge are as follows:

  • Boys 15-17 division winner: Scott Ferguson (age 16)
  • Girls 10-12 division winner: Jia Yi Lim (age 12)
  • Girls 10-12 division runner-up: Benyapa Niphatsophon (age 10)
  • Boys 11-12 division winner: S. Vikkash Babu (age 11)
  • Boys 11-12 division winner: Wesson Ng (age 11)
  • Girls 8-9 division winner: Piyanida (Nicky) Meenil (age 9)
  • Boys 9-10 division winner: In-Touch Ruckpanich (age 9)
  • Boys 9-10 division runner-up: Brandon Polana (age 10)
  • Boys 8 under division winner: Andre Chong (age 7)
