Laguna Phuket Golf Club Announces Full Course Upgrade
Laguna Phuket Golf Club will begin a comprehensive course upgrade from 1st July 2013 to significantly improve its complete golf experience as a world class five-star golf facility.
The entire project is estimated to take a maximum of 18 months to complete, with the upgraded 18-hole course scheduled for full operation by 1st Jan 2015.
“Over recent years the combination of age, drainage, soil structure and contamination of grasses has affected the overall quality of our playing surfaces,” said the Club’s Assistant Director of Golf Paul Wilson, who will oversee the upgrade.
“This project will see significant investments made to improve tee box areas, bunkers, green complexes, practice facilities, drainage, irrigation and all playing surfaces.”
Although these works may cause some inconvenience to our members and guests, we believe they are necessary to bring our course right up to a true world-class standard that will be appreciated by everyone who plays here,” he said.
During the upgrade the 18-hole course will be reduced to nine holes from 1st July onwards, with members and guests initially having access to the existing front nine holes which can be played twice for a full round.
When the back nine holes upgrade is complete the procedure will be reversed and the back nine made available for play while the front nine are upgraded.
Other effects of the upgrade procedures will include reduced practice facilities at certain times, possible reduction of tee time availabilities during the high season and members and guests being joined together in foursomes to enable maximum use of the nine-hole course.
As compensation for any inconvenience the Club will provide members with a 50% discount on membership dues, complimentary daily basket of driving range balls and 50% F&B discount at course kiosks.
The Club is also negotiating with other local golf clubs to provide favourable green fees for members during the upgrade period.
Laguna Phuket Golf Club, part of the Laguna Phuket resort complex and host of the 2009 Singha Thailand Open and 2010 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand, is staffed by PGA professionals.
