Off to The Races at Laguna Phuket

Media Release

The annual Phuket Animal Welfare Society’s (PAWS) fundraising event was held at Laguna Phuket on Saturday 11 October. The evening saw a glittering array of Phuket’s generous residents come out to support the PAWS ‘Royal Ascot’ themed fundraising and awareness party. Two race horses were also present to add to the theme throughout the champagne cocktail reception at the beginning of the evening.

Ladies got into the spirit of the equestrian theme by donning elaborate hats, and some gentlemen also dressed up for the occasion in jockey costumes. Over 700,000 THB was raised through raffles and an exciting live auction which saw a Beatles guitar, signed by Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney sell for 260,000 THB. Other auctioned items included a signed shirt by Liverpool FC captain Steven Gerrard as well as a mega extravagant evening for up to thirty passengers on a fifty metre super yacht ‘Polaris’. With catering by Banyan Tree Phuket, the party extended to the small hours with a live band and dancing.

PAWS is a fully licensed and registered foundation with the long term objective of reducing the stray dog and cat populations in Phuket and helping to educate local communities in effective and humane animal management. The PAWS mobile clinic will be located in the elephant park area opposite the entrance to Canal Village, Laguna Phuket from Thursday 16 to Sunday 19 October to sterilise stray cats and dogs which
reside within Laguna or on the streets/beach in the surrounding neighbourhood. For more information on PAWS please visit their website:
