Laguna Phuket Top of the Bill at Blues Rock Festival
Change of Key for Noted Sports Venue
Laguna Phuket, the island’s premier event venue, was top of the bill today as the host of the seventh Phuket International Blues Rock Festival, which once again presented a line-up of top international and local rock talent.
Staged in a purpose-built marquee and hospitality complex on a tree-lined setting overlooking one of the resort’s lagoons, the two-night Festival features 12 acts from 10 different countries, headed by blues star Chris Thomas King of the USA.
The weekend musical extravaganza is a change of key for Laguna Phuket, better known for hosting major sporting events such as the Laguna Phuket International Marathon, Laguna Phuket Triathlon and Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship which draw thousands of athletes and spectators to the island as well as its annual Summer Family Festival.
Hundreds of music lovers are expected and the event also has a charity angle, with fund-raising activities to support the charitable ventures of Patong Rotary Club.
“We’re delighted to showcase our versatility by staging such a prestigious and popular musical event,” said Michael Ayling, managing director of Laguna Phuket. “The Festival is a renowned event on the region’s calendar and it’s particularly pleasing to welcome so many international artists to perform at our resort.”
Chris Thomas King, who jetted into Phuket for the Festival from his home in New Orleans, said: “I’ve played at many venues all over the world, but this has got to be one of the most spectacular I’ve ever seen.”
The Festival line-up also features rising Irish star Grainne Duffy and her band; Clas Yngstrom and Sky High from Sweden; Akasha of Malaysia; and John Meyer’s Blues Express from Australia.
As well as enjoying the music, festival-goers are able to sample a range of cuisine from Angsana Laguna Phuket, while youngsters are catered for with a bouncy castle.
