Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket for sixth annual Laguna Phuket International Marathon
Phuket, Thailand - The management team and staff of Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket will again participate in the sixth annual Laguna Phuket International Marathon – known as Laguna's “Paradise Run” – on Sunday 12 June 2011. The event features a marathon and half marathon, 10 kilometre and 5 kilometre runs, a 2 kilometre kids' race, and a family walk.
The courses provide a spectacular backdrop for this fun day, weaving through local villages, past Phuket's famous rubber and pineapple plantations, stunning seaside spots, picturesque lagoons and golf course. These family oriented events allow people of all ages and fitness levels to participate and enjoy one of Phuket's biggest sport activities. From the humble beginning with less than 2,000 participants, the event has grown in numbers and now attracts over 4,500 people – including an average of 1,500 overseas participants hailing from 43 countries across the world.
A media lunch will be held at Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket on Saturday 11 June., Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket will also enter a two-day expo on 10-11 June as part of an event called Laguna Phuket Y Junction. Fun activities held around Laguna Phuket will contribute to a carnival atmosphere for runners from around Thailand, Asia and elsewhere.
“I am pleased to see that the number of entrants for Laguna Phuket International Marathon continually grows each year since the inaugural event in 2006,” said Mr Peter Komposch, General Manager, Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket. “The hotel is a pioneer of the laguna Phuket development, so we are always delighted to showcase our tropical island to visitors.
This year's competitors are raising funds for Baan Klong Mai Daeng School – located in neighbouring Surat Thani province and devastated by flooding in late 2010 – by donating through www.justgiving.com,” continued Mr Komposch. “The entire family of Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket look forward to participating in the event. It's a tremendously fun and wholesome day.”
