In celebration of its 30th Anniversary in 2017, Laguna Phuket presents an exciting new Food & Music Festival to mark the significant milestone at Asia’s first premier destination resort, with its three-kilometre pristine Bangtao Beach at northwestern Phuket Island, Thailand.

Supported by Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to heighten Phuket Province’s status as a “City of Gastronomy” conferred by the UNESCO, the inaugural Food & Music Festival will set the stage to create yet another lifestyle destination event from Friday 3 March to Sunday 5 March 2017 within its resort complex.

Ringing in the mood of festivities on Friday 3 March, various Laguna Phuket’s resorts will whip up sumptuous Music & Wine dinners.

The youngest of them all, Manit Chomrung started his culinary journey in 2000 when he joined Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket as Demi Chef de Partie. He then garnered his experiences through working alongside leading Chefs on Phuket island before joining the resort opening’s task force for Angsana Lang Co in Vietnam (2013) and Angsana Fuxian Lake in China (2014).

Manit participated in the Iron Chef Thailand competition in 2014, and was a part of the winning team when Angsana Laguna Phuket’s XANA Beach Club won “Phuket Best Burger” competition in 2015.

Executive Chef Alfonso de la Dehesa

Alfonso de la Dehesa came to Thailand from the Banyan Tree resort in Cabo Marqués, Mexico. Alfonso brings with him a highly-developed focus on modern and international cuisine, honed over decades of experience at some of the world’s most distinguished restaurants. Originally from Spain, Alfonso soon earned a reputation for exceptional quality in his approach to culinary innovation and presentation. His considerable talents found their expression at ARZAK, a 3-star Michelin restaurant in Spain – and then again at El Bulli, another 3-star Michelin restaurant, considered by many to be the best in the world.

Alfonso next became Chef de Cuisine at Spain’s most successful catering company, Catering Medens. He loves to keep up with the latest cooking trends and enjoy adapting them to his own style. He believes that fusion food is losing popularity now as there seems to be a drift back towards basic and traditional recipes, the heart of cooking are based on good ingredients and preparation.

Executive Chef Roberto Conrad

When the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort opened in March, it brought with it the highly regarded culinary styling of Chef Roberto Conrad to oversee all of the new resort’s restaurants. By fostering a close relationship with farmers, fishermen and suppliers, Conrad creates a cuisine that emphasizes local ingredients, seasonality and sustainability. The Swiss native studied at Foce del Cassarate in Lugano, Switzerland. Following his apprenticeship at the Admiral Hotel Lugano, Conrad honed his skills as executive chef at 5-star hotels around the world, including the InterContinental Shanghai Puxi, The Siam Kempinski Hotel Bangkok, The Regent and Peninsula hotel  Beijing, Shangri La Island Hong Kong The Westin Kuala Lumpur and the Hotel Plaza Athénée Bangkok, among others.
