Sustainable Tree Planting

For the final stage of the Baan Klongsai’s Support Programme the old adage..

'Give a man a fish and he will feed for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for life'

…Is employed to leave the school standing on its own two feet.

On Saturday 13th June 2009, a group of almost 100 people made the journey to Klong Sai School to work with students and parents to plant palm oil trees on the school grounds. The trees provide shade for the children, work as a practical learning tool for teachers and will provide sustainable source of income for the school via the sale of palm oil, one of the main local industries.

Community Sports Activities

Local health volunteers competed in a volleyball competition to promote the concepts of a healthy lifestyle among community members and students. The newly constructed front playground provided a great court for the competition.

Wall Renovation

Funds raised at the tea party were used to reconstruct walls in the school that had been severely damaged by termites.

Baan Klong Sai Tea Party

Baan Klong Sai School committee members and alumni organized a “tea party”, Thailand’s traditional rural fundraising event, to raise money for additional school improvement projects.

The 2-day event featured bird singing competitions, traditional dances performed by the students, and a football competition between work contractors teams, community members, and school teachers.

Laguna Phuket associates collected and donated over 430 USD (approximately 15,000 Baht) to the tea party.

Roof Renovation for Classroom Building

Laguna Phuket sponsored the renovation of roof and pillars for one of the two school buildings at Baan Klong Sai School. In addition, new electrical wires were installed throughout the building to ensure safe, earthed electricity supply. The funds raised were used to contract partner companies whilst the management of work progress and coordination with the school administration was conducted for free by Laguna Phuket throughout the renovation period.

Cement Block Laying Activity

Over 150 Laguna Phuket staff volunteers, together with contractors’ alliance, laid paving stones on the main school ground intended for use in play, exercise, and community gatherings. The groundwork helps to solve the seasonal flooding problem and allows for year-round accessibility.

Baan Klong Sai School Big Cleaning Day

Over 100 Laguna Phuket staff volunteered to take part in the Big Cleaning Day, where they worked alongside students, teachers, and community members to deep clean the school and its grounds. This marked the first step in a sequence of projects to upgrade and improve health and safety standards for the school.
